Emily & Matt’s Cozy Winter Wedding at The Thompson Inn | Durham, NH

When it comes to whirlwind wedding planning, Emily and Matt set a new record! From their engagement in June to their December wedding, they pulled off a stunning celebration in just six months. We first connected with this sweet couple when they booked us in August, and we had the pleasure of capturing their engagement photos in November. Watching their vision come together so beautifully in such a short amount of time was truly inspiring.

Their chosen venue, The Thompson Inn in Durham, NH, provided the perfect backdrop for their intimate winter wedding. Nestled atop a hill, this charming inn offered cozy spaces for both pre-ceremony preparations and a festive celebration. The girls spent the morning getting ready in the elegant bridal suite, while the guys relaxed with a toast in the rustic wine cellar at the Cyderhouse. The atmosphere was warm and inviting, setting the stage for an unforgettable day.

Emily’s bridal look was nothing short of breathtaking. Her lace-adorned gown was elevated by custom details from her talented seamstress, Dao To, including detachable sheer sleeves and a sheer shawl that buttoned elegantly to the back of the dress. These additions gave her look a timeless, sophisticated touch. Adding a deeply personal element, Emily wore a veil handmade by her mother, her late Nana’s cherished earrings, and a simple yet meaningful pearl necklace. It was a stunning ensemble, combining elegance with heartfelt family connections.

Emily and Matt shared a private first look outside before family and wedding party portraits. Though the winter chill kept us on our toes, the couple and their wedding party embraced the weather with smiles, laughter, and cozy knit wraps for the bridesmaids. The bouquets, crafted by a talented new florist, captured Emily’s vision of winter florals beautifully, with soft hues and seasonal accents. After snapping a few extra couples’ portraits, everyone warmed up inside, ready for the ceremony to begin.

The ceremony was a heartfelt celebration officiated by a close friend of the couple. From heartfelt vows to a live performance by another friend playing guitar and singing, the ceremony was rich with personal touches. Guests were moved to tears and smiles, witnessing the deep love and commitment Emily and Matt share.

After the ceremony, the newlyweds took a moment to themselves before joining cocktail hour, a thoughtful touch that allowed them to soak in their first moments as husband and wife. The reception kicked off with a lively introduction of the wedding party and Emily and Matt’s first dance, setting a celebratory tone for the evening.

The speeches were equal parts heartfelt and hilarious. Emily’s sister stole the show, praising Emily’s academic achievements and character while affectionately calling her a “nerd,” prompting laughter and cheers. Matt’s best man and Emily’s father shared moving words, highlighting the love and admiration surrounding this incredible couple.

Guests were treated to a delicious dinner featuring braised short rib—a standout vendor meal for us! The couple shared a private cake-cutting moment with their parents, embracing this classic tradition. Meanwhile, guests enjoyed a mouthwatering dessert table featuring pumpkin tiramisu, chocolate cupcakes, and cannoli.

After Emily and Matt shared sweet dances with their parents, the dance floor came alive. A highlight of the night was when Emily’s friend Corinne presented the couple with a life-sized cutout of their beloved dog, Theo. While Theo couldn’t attend, he was there in spirit, bringing plenty of laughs and joy. The night concluded with a packed dance floor, a giant group photo, and a whole lot of love.

Emily and Matt’s wedding day was a true celebration of love, family, and friendship. The Thompson Inn’s hospitality and charm made it an unforgettable venue, and the joy of their friends and family was evident in every moment. We feel so honored to have been part of their journey, from their engagement to their first day as husband and wife. Cheers to Emily and Matt—may your future together be as beautiful as your wedding day!
